The Garmin nüvi 885T is Garmin’s top of the line voice command navigator. Updating the nuvi 880, the 885T adds junction view, lane assist and a speed limit indicator. It is also compatible with the third generation of MSN Direct services, including doppler radar and flight status.
The DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 updates the PN-20, which was already one of the most innovative GPS receivers out there. Quite simply, the PN-40 rocks, adding the following new features:
The Insignia NS-CNV10 is a connected GPS navigator available exclusively from BestBuy. It includes a one year subscription for connectivity which gives you access to Google Local search, live traffic, and gas prices. The CNV10 is a 3.5” model with text-to-speech, so you’ll hear “in one mile, make a left turn on Main Street,” rather than just “in one mile, make a left turn.”
The Magellan Maestro 4350 is one of several new models introduced by Magellan in 2008. This 4.3” wide screen navigator includes the updated “OneTouch” user interface, six million POIs, and text-to-speech. It also comes preloaded with maps of the entire U.S. and Canada, Bluetooth, live traffic and 3D buildings. Other features include AAA TourBook, an FM transmitter and QuickSpell auto-complete.
The Navigon 2200T is Navigon's current entry-level model with lifetime traffic. This 3.5" touch screen unit features text-to-speech, so you'll hear "in one mile, turn right onto Maple Street" instead of just "in one mile, turn right." Other features include Reality ViewTM Pro, Lane Assist Pro, speed limit display, multi-destination trip planning and DirectHelpSM. It includes maps of the 48 contiguous United States. PC Magazine has reported a fairly small number of POIs - 2 million, though I have not been able to verify that; Navigon documentation simply states that the device has "millions of POIs."
The Garmin nüvi 775T is Garmin's newest trans-Atlantic navigator, and their top of the line one as well. Pre-loaded with maps of the U.S., Canada and Europe, the 775T also offers lane assist, lifetime traffic and 3-D buildings.
The TomTom ONE 125 turned out to be one of this year's Black Friday stars. Aggressively priced, the ONE 125 is identical to the TomTom ONE 130, except that it only includes maps of the U.S., and not Canada too (as found on the 130).
The Navigon 7200T updates the Navigon 7100, adding 3-D buildings and a new interface. The 4.3" wide screen navigator comes loaded with maps of the U.S. and Canada, and has text-to-speech, so you'll hear "in one mile, turn right onto Maple Street" instead of just "in one mile, turn right." Other features include Bluetooth for hands-free cell phone use, lifetime traffic, voice destination entry, Reality ViewTM Pro, Lane Assist Pro, Zagat® ratings and reviews, Exit Guide and DirectHelpSM. Whew; this thing is loaded! But the question is, how well does it do all that? I'll dig into those features in more detail shortly. First, let's look at how it compares to other units in the Navigon family.
The Garmin nuvi 765T is a member of the new second-generation nuvi 700 series family, adding lane assist, 3-D buildings and lifetime NAVTEQ traffic to an already significant feature set. The 765T has a 4.3" wide touch-screen, pre-loaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, stereo Bluetooth and text-to-speech, so you''ll hear "drive one-half mile, then turn left on Oak Street." instead of just "drive one-half mile, then turn left."
