Magellan beefs up features on RoadMate line

Magellan-RoadMate-1470 Though there’s been no official announcement, Magellan quietly rolled out three new RoadMate units at CTIA last week, and one – the 4.7” Magellan RoadMate 1470 (pictured above) – is already available at Amazon.

The new models add features to the entry-level RoadMate series that were previously found only on the Maestro line. For example, the RoadMate 1470 includes Magellan’s new “One Touch” interface, multi-destination routing, highway lane assist, and AAA TourBook features.

I’ll post details on all the new models as soon as the info becomes available.

Nuvifone news from CTIA Wireless show Well, its the last day of CTIA Wireless and it’s pretty clear there won’t be any nuvifone carrier or pricing announcements forthcoming from Garmin-Asus. I‘m hoping this is just due to AT&T not wanting to steal the thunder from their new introductions that are coming sooner than the nuvifone. So the news from the show is limited, but here’s what we’ve seen so far: From infoSync, regarding the Linux-based nuvifone G60 (follow the link for more): “The Web browser is Garmin's own Webkit-based browser, and it worked nicely in our hands-on time. Our own homepage rendered near-perfectly, and we had no trouble navigating the Web with our fingers and zooming in and out of a large page.” And no surprise here, but there are reports that the nuvifones on display are using AT&T SIM chips.
