With the SHOT Show underway, and Outdoor Retailer right behind it, we're seeing a lot more handheld GPS news and related product announcements. So here's a few odds and ends for you outdoor types:
- Garmin will be releasing their nationwide 24K topo maps series on regional DVDs, with the first disc slated to hit the market in the first quarter of 2009. Each DVD will cover the area offered on two micro-SD cards (for example, CA, NV, OR and WA will be available on one DVD). The retail cost will be $129.99. Thanks for the details Jake!
- Magellan has released a major firmware update for the Triton series.
- SledMaps snowmobile trail maps are now available for Garmin units. Previously, they were only available for Magellan units, sold by the producer, TrailMaps. One other note -- in researching this, I came across some free snowmobile maps too.
- Speaking of free maps, there are now free topo maps for Garmin receivers for Nevada, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, in addition to those I've covered before. Via Free Geography Tools.
