UPDATE: TWICE is reporting that ecoRoute works with 2xx and 7xx series nuvis.

Another Garmin announcement today is ecoRoute, a software update for some nuvi units that adds a "less fuel" route option. Additionally, ecoRoute includes a Fuel Report that tracks fuel usage over time, and a Mileage Report that monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis.

You can see if your nüvi is compatible with ecoRoute through a free, downloadable software update at www.garmin.com/ecoroute.

EcoRoute appeared on my nüvi 205w with the 4.80 software update. Not entirely convinced of it's utility, especially as I don't know exactly how many mpg my car does!

Just spend an hour trying to install it on my 250. Ecoroute doesn't appear after the update.

CES reveals GPS trends It's beginning to look like we won't see that many new GPS introductions at CES this year, as manufacturers work to unload excess inventory they didn't move over the holiday season. What we've seen so far is that manufacturers are going for more profitable niche products and high-end units for which there is a clear demand, often built onto existing hardware platforms so as to require no expensive manufacturing changes. Partnerships, map sales and being in sync with the economic times are in vogue this year. Stay tuned though, we may have some surprises yet. CES doesn't even officially begin until tomorrow, though most manufacturers tend to hype new product releases just ahead of the show.
