CES_logo small Here are a few more GPS related announcements from CES:

  • TomTom announces a second-generation in-dash unit in their partnership with Fujitsu Ten - the Eclipse AVN4430
  • Little known (in the PND world anyway) Dual Electronics looks like they will offer the first PND in the U.S. with HD Radio technology; whether they will take advantage of the bandwidth to deliver additional traffic data is unknown
  • Nextar, fresh off a stellar holiday season, offers up a unit with free lifetime traffic
  • Navigon has announced a new partnership, offering Rand McNally content for their devices

Garmin zumo 660 apes the nuvi Continuing a trend to introduce the nuvi form factor into other product lines, Garmin has announced the Garmin zumo 660. I should have seen a new zumo coming since Garmin discontinued the motorcycle-friendly zumo 450 recently. New features include lane assist, 3D buildings, and A2DP Bluetooth. There's also this: "A new multiple routing feature customers can see a map preview of the proposed fastest route, shortest route and off road route prior to choosing to navigate it. This capability gives riders additional situational awareness before they begin their journey." The zumo 660 is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2009 at a MSRP of $799.99. I'll update this post with a product link as it becomes available. Garmin ecoRoute UPDATE: TWICE is reporting that ecoRoute works with 2xx and 7xx series nuvis. Another Garmin announcement today is ecoRoute, a software update for some nuvi units that adds a "less fuel" route option. Additionally, ecoRoute includes a Fuel Report that tracks fuel usage over time, and a Mileage Report that monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis. You can see if your nüvi is compatible with ecoRoute through a free, downloadable software update at www.garmin.com/ecoroute.
