Are you ready for Black Friday?

Black Friday GPS Deals Black Friday is just a week from tomorrow and there are sure to be a lot of great deals to be found on GPS receivers.

What to expect

Here's how it's all shaping up...I'm expecting to see entry-level Garmin nuvis going for $119 or less, with less popular brands (Nextar, etc.) going for $69 or $79. And who knows, someone may offer a blowout on the latter for $49. I'm also expecting to see TomTom and Magellan priced a little lower than Garmins, with entry-level models going for $99 for sure, perhaps less.

When to get the best deals

In past years, the best deals of the holiday season have come on the Thanksgiving weekend -- from Thanksgiving Day to Black Friday and on through the weekend to Cyber Monday. That's been the trend, but what with the gloomy economic picture this year, we still might see better deals later on. But history suggests that Thanksgiving weekend is the best time to shop.

Where to get the best deals

Now I don't know about you, but I'm not a big fan of queuing up in the cold and dark with a bunch of crazed bargain seekers. I'll be doing most of my holiday shopping online, but not during Thanksgiving weekend. Instead, I'll be right here, finding the best prices and posting them for you on our new GPS Deals site. I'll probably post some deal summaries here, but the best way to keep up with them and have a shot at any limited quantity deals is to subscribe to our GPS Deals RSS feed.

A note for our regular readers A bit of housekeeping here...Over the next week I'll be posting quite a bit of information to help folks purchasing a GPS receiver -- for many it will be their first. I hope that our regular readers will help with comments as time allows. But I also wanted to give you a heads up that this will be happening and that content will be hijacked for awhile. Stay tuned though. I hope things will be at least somewhat back to normal following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I do have some interesting things in the works, such as a test of the Garmin nuvi 7x5 series A2DP Bluetooth implementation, which (theoretically at least) should allow a three way connection between your headset, phone and nuvi. Who knows, maybe we'll finally see Bluetooth that doesn't suck.
