The Dash Express is getting a couple of voice applications this morning -- free services provided by Tellme and Dial Directions. The only configuration required with either is to register your mobile phone numbers with Dash Navigation at my.dash.net.
Tellme
Tellme delivers local business search results from Microsoft Live Search, allowing drivers to find their destinations and get directions without typing in an address.
Dash Express owners can dial 1-800-CALL-411 (1-800-225-5411) or 1-800-555-TELL (1-800-555-8355) and search for businesses by name or category, anywhere in the United States, using only their voices. Once they’ve selected a business, the name and street address are sent wirelessly to the Dash Express.
Dial Directions
Whereas Tellme focuses on POIs, the Dial Directions service offers a way to enter address or intersections by voice command, by dialing 1-DIRECTIONS (or 1-347-328-4667) and speaking your destination. The destination appears instantly on the Dash Express.
It's nice to see these features for the Dash Express, and it should enhance safety somewhat. Still, it's nothing like having a unit that you can speak to directly.
