The Garmin nuvi 770, with pre-loaded maps of North America and Europe, is one of the nicest of Garmin's transatlantic navigators. As a member of the 700 series, it incorporates a number of features not found on the transatlantic nuvi 670:
- Multi-destination routing
- Automatic sorting of multiple destinations to provide an efficient route
- Tracklog recording
- Speed limit display for many interstates and highways
- The newer internal antenna found on the nuvi 200 series
- Automatic marking of your last position when the unit is turned off (to help you find your car in mega-mall parking lots)
- A "Where am I" safety feature that gives your current location, nearest address, nearest intersection, along with quick access to POIs for the nearest hospitals, police stations and gas stations
- Finally, MSN Direct is available as an add on option
The ever-expanding nuvi line can be quite confusing. Check out our Garmin nuvi comparison chart for help determining which model best suits your needs. The chart includes info on all the other transatlantic models, including the nuvi 270 and nuvi 370.

I am thinking about the purchase of the Garmin 880 when it becomes available soon.
Is it likely to be worth the additional cost?
What are the feature and product comparison between the 770 and the 880?
When will it be available?
What will be the cost?
What are the best places to purchase it from?
Thanks

The 880 is due sometime in the next couple of months. TigerGPS is saying late May. Unlike the nuvi 770, it will include voice recognition, but I don't think it will include the 770's maps of Europe. List price is $1071, discounts unknown at this time. If they choose to carry it, GPSNow.com often has the best price when new models first come out.

Hi
First off, great review!! Great Site too!!
I am torn between the Nuvi 770 and the TomTom 920/930 and I cant find a good objective comparisson.
Based on your experience would you recommend either one over the other?
Both the TT920 and Nuvi 770 are pretty close in price but I am leaning towards the 770.
thanks
Adam

Adam,
Based on what I know now, I'd go with the nuvi. I'll be reviewing the TomTom 730, but won't get it posted for several weeks. In the meanwhile, this may help...

Thanks for that Rich,
I think you just helped me make my choice!
Nuvi 770 is approx €90 cheaper here than the TT730 and 930 so that further does it for me!

Hi,
I am trying to decide between the nuvi 770 and the 775t. Is the lane assist and new satellite fixing and routing worth the extra money for the 775t?
I think that traffic would be nice but it's not as important to me. The 770 is appealing because it is about $300 less and has a longer battery life.
I'm going to primarily use this for traveling, including trips to europe, I know my way around my city pretty well.
What are your thoughts?
thanks, Jess

I found the lane assist feature very helpful, but it's hard to justify $300 just for that. Multi-destination routing is present on both.
