Garmin announced this morning that it has extended its map data contract with NAVTEQ through 2015, with an option for an additional four years. Garmin also announced that it will drop its bid for Tele Atlas.
Shares of Garmin were up as a result of the news, which comes right on the heels of Garmin and TomTom settling their litigation over patent disputes.
I'm not so sure how good that is. Tele Atlas is doing some interesting things with 3d rendering and I found my August map update from Garmin littered with errors. NAVTEQ did not do a very good job on this one, at least in the Dallas TX area.
