$100 rebate on Garmin marine and vehicle units

Garmin_376c_1 Garmin has announced $100 rebates on the following hybrid marine / highway units GPSMAP 276C, 376C, 378 and 478. The rebates are good for non-auction sales in the US and Canada, and run through December 31, 2006.

Waypoints - October 10, 2006 The past week or so has been mercifully slow in the world of GPS. I say mercifully because I’m traveling and it’s been hard to find the time to put this together. So we have just a few odds and ends this week… I’ve been wondering when FM transmitters would be eliminated, allowing us a better way to route XM radio, MP3’s, directions and cell phone calls to our stereo’s speakers. Looks like TomTom Car Connect could be one solution. I bet the folks at Garmin are looking into whether or not TomTom has a patent on this. Free Garmin Tour Guides Travel by GPS has released their first Tour Guides for compatible Garmin GPS devices. The initial releases feature Huntsville, AL, and Asheville, NC -- my former home, billed here as the "Paris of the South." Okay, I am biased, but I often describe it to people as a very cosmopolitan city. This is the first third-party application like this that I have seen. Doug Adomatis, the guy behind Travel by GPS, has been wanting an application like this for years. He notes that his is the first site to publish free Garmin tour guides in the GPI format. This format is "compiled from a special version of the GPS data (gpx) file which links audio (mp3) files and image (jpg) files." The MP3 files play as you approach an included point of interest (POI). Compatible Garmin units: nuvi 350 nuvi 360 nuvi 660 StreetPIlot 2730 StreetPliot 2820 StreetPilot 7200 StreetPilot 7500
