New Garmin Receivers with Expandable Memory and SiRF Chipset

UPDATE: Garmin has announced the release of these new GPS receivers (follow link for update).

On Thanksgiving afternoon, reports started showing up on the Yahoo 60CS and Groundspeak GPS message boards, about a new line of Garmin receivers. Initial reports referenced pages on Basspro.com for the following models:

The 60 and 76 series models list (according to Bass Pro Shops) that they use the SiRF chipset, presumably the SiRFstarIII. All the units include a TransFlash data card of anywhere from 32 to 128 MB.

One poster said:

"I just spoke to a Bass Pro Shop representative and she told me it is a brand new item. Bass Pro Shops will be receiving their first shipment the first week of December!"

If this schedule is true, we should be seeing a press release from Garmin in the near future. Stay tuned...

That's correct, good news. I've written a news article on this in Norway:

I'm sure the 60/76 x-models have SiRF chipset and expandable memory, and it seems like the eTrex x-models also have. The price is some 10% higher than for the for previous models.
All according to information on Boss Pro Shops web site.

Yes, I'm wondering abou the SiRF chipset on the eTrex models, since Bass Pro didn't list it for them.

I spoke with Garmin today (I am an authorized dealer), they could not confirm the new units. However, they are always taking suggestions and doing what they can to apply them to the units. Technology is great...thanks Garmin for always staying ahead of the game.

I have to say I dont think the 76 series will have the TF option as these units were made to be waterproof and to float. We shall see =)

Do you have a pdf release of your book?
I bye it.
Thanks in advance.
Luis (from Portugal)

Hi Luis,

I've been talking to my publisher about it and they have agreed to it. I'll see if I can speed them up.
